Lake Como
Lake Como is a highly controlled water system in the Italian Subalpine Lake District. It includes a large regulated lake serving a wide irrigation-fed cultivated area, but it has an impact on additional stakeholders, including flood protection, navigation, fishing, tourism, and ecosystems.
Kariba Reservoir
Kariba Dam is the largest man-made reservoir in Africa. It is located in the Zambezi Watercourse and feeds two hydropower plants (the North Bank Station in Zambia and the South Bank Station in Zimbabwe), for a total nameplate capacity of about 2,000 MW. The dam releases also provide water supporting the ongoing expansion of irrigated agriculture.

Folsom Reservoir
Folsom Reservoir in California is the primary water supply and flood control reservoir on the American River in Northern California. It provides agricultural and municipal water supply, hydropower, environmental flows, and flood protection for the city of Sacramento.
Mekong River
The Mekong is among the world’s ten largest rivers, both in terms of its flow discharge and its sediment load. Its basin has experienced rapid economic development, manifested through a substantial expansion of hydropower dams, and expansion of irrigated agriculture and aquaculture. Besides, the decrease in flow in the dry season and the ongoing sea-level rise significantly increase saline intrusion in the delta.

Jucar River
The Júcar river basin is located in the east of the Iberian Peninsula. Its balance between competing water demands and available resources is precarious. While 89% of the water is earmarked for agriculture, it also needs to serve urban and industrial uses as well as 31 hydropower plants. The water, food, energy and ecosystems nexus in the region is highly dependent on water, but the balance between water demand and available resources is precarious.
